U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 11 - Bellingham, WA

Free Vessel Safety Checks

Have your boat checked for safety equipment and other state and federal requirements by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary trained examiners.

We will also check your boat in the water or on your trailer, at the marina or at your storage  location. You do not have to be at one of the scheduled events to have a VSC performed.

  • For a FREE Vessel Safety Check appointment at your convenience, call Peter at 360-733-8187 or send an e-mail to him at pmborder@msn.com

The vessel examiners who perform the VSC's are specially trained CG Auxiliary personnel who are informed on the latest legal requirements for boaters. Along with helping boaters  have a safely equipped boat, a vessel inspection may prevent boaters from receiving equipment related citations from the Coast Guard.  Vessels that pass the examination are awarded the Seal of Safety to be placed on the vessel.Vessel Safety Check

A VSC is a free, annual service, to provide boat owners and operators with the information they need to have a safe and legal boating experience.

There is no penalty if your boat fails to meet full compliance. You will simply be given a report listing the deficiencies found, along with encouragement to make corrections on your own. Your boat may at your request be rechecked at some convenient time in the future.

There are new Washington State boating laws that took effect January 2010.  These include a requirement for boat operators under 30 years-of-age to have a boater's education card, documenting successful completion of a boater safety education class. Another new law requires that a boater have a Carbon Monoxide (CO) sticker affixed to the interior of any power driven vessel. Vessel examiners can also provide additional boating safety information.
