March Flotilla Meeting

MKC Shaine Wells, from Station Bellingham, discussed the 47’ Motor Lifeboat service life extension program (SLEP) at the March Flotilla meeting.
From the USCG Acquisition Directorate, the SLEP program prepares the 47’ MLB to have 20 or more years of service life. From their news release:
“The SLEP technical work addresses main obsolescence in systems such as the main propulsion, steering, towing, electrical, and navigation systems. It also focuses on the repair and replacement of deteriorating areas in the hull and structure. The operational capabilities and characteristics of the MLB remain the same. The SLEP work is being performed at facilities in Bellingham, Washington, and Portland, Connecticut.”
